Solomon Islands in Canada


The Consulate General of Solomon Islands to Canada is represented by Head of Consular Post & Honorary Consul General  Ashwant Dwivedi with jurisdiction across Canada. The Consulate office is also responsible for promoting economic and political relations between Canada and Solomon Islands.

The High Commission of Canada in Canberra is responsible for Canada’s official relations with the Solomon Islands.

Canada and the Solomon Islands maintain a positive relationship. Bilateral relations are cordial and enhanced by a shared membership in international organisations such as the United Nations, the World Trade Organization and the World Health Organisation. Canada and Solomon Islands share interests with respect to fisheries and climate change and are both party to the United Nations Fish Stocks Agreement and the Kyoto Protocol. Canada is also a Dialogue Partner of the Pacific Islands Forum to which the Solomon Islands belongs.

The Solomon Islands, an archipelago comprising several islands, atolls and reefs, is rich in cultural diversity.
With regard to development assistance, Canada supports community-based projects in the Solomon Islands through the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives administered by the Canadian High Commission in Australia. The country is also eligible for multilateral programs and others managed by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA).

Canada’s trade relations with the Solomon Islands are managed by the Trade Commissioner Service at the Canadian High Commission in Australia. (Source Department of Foreign Affairs, Ottawa).
